Ivan Skanavi, winner of the 2022 Grand-Prix Emanuel Feuermann, is one of the leading cellists of his generation, captivating audiences with his broad stylistic sound spectrum, clear projection and vast range of colours, has made a name for himself as an outstanding and versatile Russian cellist.

Ivan began playing the cello at the age of six in Tamara Alekseeva‘s class at the Children‘s Music School of the Academic Music College at the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory Academic Music College and then at the Moscow State P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in the class of Professor Alexey Seleznev and later by Alexander Rudin before moving to Weimar to study with Professor Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music.

He won a prize at the VII International Young Musician Competition (Tallinn, 2009) and a scholarship of the Russian Ministry of Culture as the winner of the Young Talents of Russia Competition (2009). He was awarded a Diploma at the First International Sviatoslav Knushevitsky Cello Competition (Saratov, 2012). 

The International Music Academy Liechtenstein awarded Ivan a scholarship and after successfully participating in the 2018 TONALi Competition, he became a member of the TONALiSTEN Agency, the first non-profit artist agency in Germany, founded by TONALi, Harrison Parrott and pianist Hanni Liang.

Ivan is also a semifinalist of the 2020 International Tchaikovsky Competition and a participant in the second round of the ARD International Competition in 2019.

He made his chamber music debut with the Moscow Philharmonic in March 2020, followed by his debut with the Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra in September.

He is completing his artistic training at masterclasses with David Geringas, David Svetlanov, Natalia Gutman, Ivan Monighetti, Gary Hoffman, Steven Isserlis, Frans Helmerson, Alban Gerhardt, Jerome Pernoo, Norbert Anger, Thorleif Thedeen, Claudio Bohorquez, Julius Berger, Jens Peter Maintz, Eckart Runge, Laszlo Fenyo and Boris Andrianov.

As a soloist he has performed with orchestras include collaborations with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Kammerphilharmonie „Metamorphosen Berlin“, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Musica Viva Orchestra, Academic Symphonic Orchestra in the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic, Moscow Chamber Orchestra of Pavel Slobodkin Center, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Moscow Conservatory Orchestra, Kurgan Symphony Orchestra, Gota Philharmonie, Siberian Symphony Orchestra and many more.
