Maria Yakovleva was born in Saint Petersburg. She graduated from Vaganova Academy in 2004. In 2004/2005 she was a member of the Mariinsky Theatre where she was entrusted with solo roles of the classical repertory. In 2005 she was engaged as Soloist by the Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper und Volksoper in 2010 she was appointed First Soloist of the Wiener Staatsballett.

Maria is described as a ballet dancer with a dramatic and lyrical persona. She is splendid in the leading classical roles ranging from Kitri and Aurora to Nikiya and Odette, and it is no wonder that she is invited to take part in international ballet festivals and galas. From Vienna to Beijing, the whole world admires her talent.

Her repertory includes title roles in the classics, as well as principal roles in pieces by Choreographers ranging from Cranko and Balanchine to Robbins and Kylián, from Neumeier to Forsythe.

She has appeared as guest dancer in many European companies an overseas such as:

  • Teatro Massimo
  • The Israel Ballet.

She was nominated for the Prix Benois de la Danse for her performance in George Balanchines Rubies in 2011.
