Andrey Shmakov is a popular and experienced chef of Moscow and Tallinn, who was awarded the title of best chef in the 2018 Gault&Millau international gastronomic guide.

He is the brand chef in SAVVA Restaurant in Moscow and also has his own place, Neobistro Tartar köök+baar and «LOVE Mussels» in Tallinn.

  • At the beginning of his professional career he worked as a cook in shipping companies: Reederei F. Laeisz (Germany), Tanska (Norway), Sankt-Petersburg (France), then in Tallinn restaurants Mona Lisa and Le Bonaparte, in Tallinn hotels Grand Hotel and Radisson SAS.
  • Andrey became a chef in two Tallinn restaurants “Kadriorg” and “Ribe” and in 2007 he completed an internship at the two-star Chez Dominique in Helsinki, then in restaurants in Tallinn. Having worked at Noma under Rene Redzepi, the Estonian-born chef was heavily influenced by the New Nordic movement. He launched Lapland restaurant in St Petersburg.
  • Since September 2013, he became the chef and then the brand chef of the hotel “Metropol”, and since June 2014 – the chef of the restaurant “Simple Place” in Metropol. In 2015 he opened the Savva restaurant, in which he is the brand chef. Savva quickly became one of the best in the Moscow.
  • In 2017, the international gastronomic guide Gault&Millau included SAVVA restaurant in the list of the best restaurants in Moscow. SAVVA became one of three restaurants that were awarded the highest award in the region — 4 “cook’s cap”, and Andrey Shmakov was marked by the guide as the best Executive Chef in Moscow.
  • In 2017, the famous French guide “La Liste” awarded the SAVVA restaurant with the title “The World Best Restaurants Selection”, the same title was awarded to the restaurant in 2018 and in 2022.
  • On October 26, 2021 SAVVA entered the TOP-3 best restaurants in Moscow according to the restaurant award WHERETOEAT-2021. And in February 2022, he entered the TOP-5 best restaurants in Russia according to WHERETOEAT Russia-2022, and was also awarded a special prize by the Russian representative office of the International Union of Concierges Les Clefs d’Or.
  • In 2021, he was awarded the CHEF OF the YEAR Award, an annual Russian award among chefs organized by the International Chef’s Breakfast Forum.
  • SAVVA Restaurant was awarded a MICHELIN star in the MICHELIN 2022 Guide.

Shmakov is well known to TV audiences in Russia as host of Masterchef Junior, Masterchef Junior 2, Masterchef Junior 3.
